Wearing your WristWidget® and working out

I just got my WristWidget, when can I return to working out? Lifting weights? And when I come back, should I lift weights while wearing it? These are the 3 most popular questions we get asked about working out and the WristWidget. And to answer this, ask yourself these 3️⃣ questions.. 1️⃣ What's my weight bearing tolerance? When you receive your WristWidget®, the first thing you should do is to test your weight bearing tolerance with and without the WristWidget®. This will give you a clear indication of your baseline weight bearing tolerance. Write this down, it's important. 2️⃣ Can I start to exercise now that I have my WristWidget®? Your weight bearing tolerance will serve as a guide to when you should start reintroducing exercises that require wrist loading (this is why 1️⃣ is so important). 65lbs of weight bearing tolerance is the recommended minimum before introducing exercises that load the wrist beyond daily activities. Once 65lbs of weight bearing has been achieved, exercises can be reintroduced gradually (don't try to start where you left off prior to injury). We've got a great series on specific exercises to include - 🔗 in bio. 3️⃣ Should I exercise with my WristWidget® on? The WristWidget® can be used to support the wrist during exercise by tightening it to comfort when most needed. It is safe and recommended to use the WristWidget® during exercise. If you need additional exercise guidance to get you back to training check out wristability.com for TFCC tear rehabilitation. Created by WristWidget® ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello!! My name is Wendy and I am the inventor and patent holder of the WristWidget®, a solution for those with tears of the Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex. I am an Occupational Therapist with a specialty in hands or CHT- Certified Hand Therapist. My fascination with the hands started at a young age when I became intrigued with the incredible dexterity that allowed me to play the piano, repair engines, write and function so well. It led me down the path of medicine at Chaminade University and then obtain a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1993. My work at Shriners Hospital in Hawaii led me to meet the hand therapist who demonstrated the incredible ability to mold and form materials for the hands of children. My passion excelled at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics where I received the most incredible exposure to all areas of medicine. I opened my private practice in Redwood City, California upon the birth of my second child. Then returned to my hometown to open 3 clinics in Honolulu, Kailua, and Queens. It was here that I invented the WristWidget®. Now the WristWidget® has expanded to all continents. I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to look at an injury every day, all day. With this has come great knowledge and understanding of an important dynamic of the human wrist. My work now is entirely manufacturing, distribution and research. My hope is to influence the way we understand the TFCC and its incredible capacity to heal. With time and research, the work of the many who have shared their stories and experiences will be published. Hopefully soon, a patient with ulnar-sided wrist pain can receive an early and non-invasive diagnosis and an effective treatment. Warmest Aloha to all of the mentors, teachers, patients, clinicians, friends, and family who have guided me along this path.
