Welcome to Mardi Gras 2024 in New Orleans, Louisiana! The Knights of Sparta/Spartan Society parade was the last of 5 parades this day in Uptown New Orleans. It followed the Krewe of Pontchartrain, Legion of Mars, Krewe of Choctaw, and the Krewe of Freret parades. The Knights of Sparta was founded in 1951 as an all male krewe and take their name from the city-state in southern Greece. In 2020, the Mystical Order of the Phoenix was founded as the sister organization to the Knights of Sparta which together parade as the Spartan Society. It has approximately 300 riders and 17 floats normally. Unfortunately, with the rain the parade was very light. No usual marching bands and walking groups. It was still a fun parade however! Some of the float themes were: Peanuts (Charlie Brown), Flintstones, Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, Little Red Riding Hood, 101 Dalmations, Harry Potter, Where the Wild Things Are, and Road Runner.
