In order to get FS2 Open running you need the retail game and the mods. 1) Retail game you can get it from steam or gog. 2) The mods you need to get the knossos launcher to get the fso builds and the visual updates https://fsnebula.org/knossos/ 3) In knossos, install the "Freespace Upgrade MediaVPs" and launch the game from that mod. For multiplayer there are a few more steps, you can find that info on the Hard-Light Productions discord channel, thats the main discord channel for the FSO community.
