Notion for medical students (how I use it as a doctor)

This is Notion for medical students and doctors in 2022! This is the culmination of the last two years of study as someone who's done my internship, residency, and now - as of literally this week - my General Practice fellowship. :) I'm happy with how I did, getting top quartile for one exam and passing comfortably for the rest, and it marks the end of 11 years of studying medicine(!) So this is the Notion page I used which integrates a lot of evidenced based stuff that's good for learning. Active recall, spaced repetition, but also super easy entry and a high level overview of concepts. There are some methods which look promising like inquiry based learning and mind maps, but this is an old school way which gives you the benefit of collating very very large amounts of information quickly. The benefit of a database like this is inherently its searchability. I don't really just think of studying for exams, but in a way where if I need to revise a topic for a particular patient and answer particular questions, I can do so with ease. -- TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Rationale 01:08 Every Topic In Medicine 01:57 How active recall works here 02:42 Super fast note writing 03:28 Real fast copy pasting 03:56 How to write good notes 04:13 Writing good notes: Asthma 05:50 Simplify to understand 06:24 Table of contents give high level overviews 06:47 Highlighting highlights weaknesses 07:20 IMPORTANT - MEMORISING HIGH YIELD FACTS 11:20 How to work through your notes 12:41 Using hints (for SAQ exams) 13:44 CHUNKING for memorising more 15:34 Distillation into functional notes 16:30 On memorising medications and doses 16:57 Tick system to avoid overdoing one section 17:48 CAN NOTION ACTUALLY LOAD THIS BIG PAGE? 19:03 SUMMARY 19:30 CONCLUSION: A counterintuitive system that...worked for me LOL 19:57 PS: Random channel musings -- WHO AM I? I'm David, a doctor in Australia, and I talk about technology and productivity for creators, students, and professionals - as well as my reflections on living a meaningful life. This description keeps changing, as this channel is a rough work in progress; feel free to follow along with me as I learn things too. -- LIFE HACKS FOR LEARNING MORE I scored top 0.5% in high school for Australia, got distinctions in Medicine when I studied that, and then also got in the top band for some of my final General Practice exams as a "specialist" doctor. So here's a course I made on a few methods to help learn and memorise things more effectively, for exams and for life. It's free with Skillshare's trial and watching it helps support this channel :) https://skl.sh/3tb6TkR -- Keep in touch! 😊 💌 My newsletter about life, tech, productivity, creative pursuits, business: https://newsletter.dabido.com.au 🐦 Twitter:   / dabidoyt   🧠 My blog of reflections, medicine, tech tutorials: https://dabido.com.au/
