21-year-old Milford man with with Stage 5 chronic kidney disease in need of transplant

MILFORD, Ohio (WKRC) - Not long ago, waiting on the organ transplant list wasn't even a thought for a 21-year-old from Milford, but then he was diagnosed with one of the most severe forms of kidney disease. “Please help me find the right donor at the right time," said Carl Wesley. Those are the words Wesley says every night before bed, hoping The Man Upstairs answers his prayers. "I call it life and death, but I’m Stage 5 chronic kidney disease," said Wesley. Wesley was diagnosed in June 2018. It started when his stomach started hurting. He ended up in the emergency room diagnosed with a disease that quickly took his kidney function. His are functioning at less than 14 percent. "I'm worried about it because I ask my doctors and nurses if I'm going to die," said Wesley. "It went from 20, 19, 18, 17 to 14. I think it's going to be lower next time," said Wesley's grandmother Mary Demember. Demember is Wesley's caregiver. He recently moved into her home in a retirement community. She says he's always been so full of life. Now, it's the opposite. "Just scared to death, you know? I kept saying we've got to turn it over to the Lord. The Lord will take care of us, and He will," said Demember. "I want this to be over. Not having income or not being in school is really getting to me," said Wesley. He watches transplant success stories online and sees the connection donors have with their recipient. He hopes that comes true for him soon. "The way I look at things, if they donate you a kidney, they're taking their body and putting it in someone else's body. I want that connection," said Wesley. If you're interested in becoming a donor, you can call Christ Hospital at 513-585-1427.
