Our timetable often includes recovery time: leeway to make up for any delays. But what do you do with it if you don't have a delay? In this video I show twice how exciting it is to switch off the power very prematurely and let the train coast for a long period of time. Will we still arrive on time? To refine this technique, I have measured running and coasting times of all train types for years. I put this in a note on my phone that I put in front of me. Of course you know this from my headcam films on Train Driver's POV, there you kept asking what information I had on that phone. It enabled me to drive into a station accurate to the second. Nowadays we have a tablet that does about the same thing, so it is no longer really exciting for us, unfortunately. Enjoy it, have fun watching! In deze video laat ik twee keer zien hoe spannend het is om zeer voortijdig de tractie uit te schakelen en de trein te laten uitrollen. Komen we op tijd? Om deze techniek te verfijnen heb ik jarenlang rij- en roltijden gemeten van alle treintypes. Deze zette ik in een notitie op mijn telefoon voor me. Jullie kennen dit natuurlijk van mijn headcam films op Train Driver's POV, daar vroegen jullie steeds wat ik op die telefoon had staan. Het stelde me in staat om op de seconde nauwkeurig een station binnen te rijden. Tegenwoordig hebben we een tablet die ongeveer hetzelfde doet, dus echt spannend is het voor ons niet meer, helaas.
