Hospital at Home for Cancer Care: Current Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities

The Hospital at Home Users Group [https://hahusersgroup.org], in partnership with the American Academy of Home Care Medicine [https://www.aahcm.org] and the American Hospital Association [https://www.aha.org], is pleased to present a webinar series for hospital and system leaders interested in learning about implementation opportunities and challenges associated with the new CMS waiver supporting Acute Hospital Care at Home. In recent months, at least six U.S. health systems and cancer centers have launched or formulated plans for Hospital at Home (HaH) programs focused on cancer patients. All are somewhat different, focusing on such activities as substituting HaH for inpatient care due to exacerbation of cancer-related symptoms, such as pain management; administration of treatment infusions such as Lupron or other drugs undergoing clinical trials; or palliative and supportive care. In this webinar, representatives of five launched or planned programs will discuss their programs and share both published and nonpublished results to date. Moderated by Susan Dentzer of the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, the discussion will identify: • Elements in common with hospital at home programs that treat general medical conditions; • Special features associated with cancer care; • Distinct as well as common challenges faced by all cancer-focused hospital at home programs; and • Opportunities for growth and expansion, such as into rural areas of the country.
