Student Spotlight: Temple MSW student shares his story of recovery

Temple Master of Social Work student Joseph Owens grew up like many other kids in Blackwood, New Jersey. He enjoyed sports and spending time with his close-knit family. But when he discovered substances as a teenager it started a 10-year-long fight with addiction. His battle culminated when he entered his final treatment center in May 2020. Since then, Joseph's life has completely changed, he is a 4.0 student in Temple's Master of Social Work program and he works full-time for Silver Pines and Steps to Recovery, helping to connect people struggling with addiction to treatment.
