Explore Beatrix Potter’s life with the V&A and the National Trust

Discover how the Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature exhibition at the Victoria & Albert museum is shedding new life on the artist, scientist, writer and farmer in collaboration with the National Trust. In this video join Helen Antrobus, Assistant National Curator, at Hill Top in Cumbria, as she takes you through some of the themes that will be explored in the exhibition. Plus, learn more Beatrix’s connections to the National Trust, and get a glimpse of some of her watercolours and objects that are still cared for by experts. Beatrix had a passion for nature from a very young age. Her stories of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten and many more have fascinated children for hundreds of years. She loved living in the Lake District, and her legacy of conservation lives on through the National Trust – when she died in 1943, Beatrix left 4,000 acres of land, including 15 farms, to the care of the charity. Her donation has meant that many more people have found a place of calm and beauty when they come to visit the Lakes. Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature will take visitors on a journey to explore Beatrix’s life. You’ll discover the many layers to the iconic writer, including highlights such as her sketches, letters, photographs and fashion from the time that inspired Beatrix in her work.
