Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at installing the Blue Ox base plate on a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. When it comes to flat towing any vehicle, there's gonna be five main components that are gonna be required. Now you may have a few auxiliary things that you're gonna want to add in, but these are gonna cover at least safely getting your vehicle down the road. And starting on the vehicle side, we have our base plate, and this is gonna attach to the frame of the vehicle and create the structural mounting point for the rest of the components, and that's where our tow bar is gonna hook up to the arms. The tow bar is gonna be the physical connection between the hitch on the RV and the base plate on your towed vehicle. Now going along with it, just like towing a trailer, you're gonna have safety cables and those are gonna attach to the base plate as well as the hitch on the RV. And that's just gonna keep everything together in case of a disconnect, that is very unlikely, but again, you wanna make sure your vehicle's not just trucking down the road. And going along with that, a braking system. That's gonna slow and stop the vehicle as you apply the brakes on your RV. And you'll have a breakaway switch and that's going to be in case of a catastrophic disconnect that if everything was to fail, it's gonna pull this cable applying the brakes on the vehicle and that way, it's not rolling down the highway, it'll bring it to a stop. We also have our diode wiring, which is gonna transmit the light signals from the taillights on the RV to the taillights on the towed vehicle. So that's gonna give you running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. And that just goes from your seven-pull on the RV to the six-pull on your towed vehicle. Additional things you may need to add would be a charge line, and that's kind of up to you, on this Wrangler. It's gonna trickle charge your battery from the umbilical and that way, it's gonna keep the battery nice and tendered as you're going down the road. You won't have to jumpstart the Jeep and that's a nice easy addition that just goes into your diode wiring six-pull. So make sure you're doing that at the same time. Something else that you're gonna wanna look at, depending on your braking system, is for indication, you need to tap into the brake light switch. And sometimes you can't do that on factory wiring and the Wranglers are like that. So the kit that Roadmaster has is really nice. It bolts up directly to a spot underneath the dash. It's specifically designed, it has a plunger, and that way when the brake is pressed, that plunger opens up and it's going to either light up your indicator lights or your wireless coach link. Either way, it's gonna indicate when the brakes are being applied. The Wrangler is by far one of the most popular flat-towed vehicles and that means there's plenty of options when it comes to base plates. And this Blue Ox option, as you can tell, it is very noticeable because it does sit below the bumper and you can see the whole thing. But overall, it's still a pretty clean look. And on a Jeep you can kind of pull this look off as kind of a utilitarian look. And I do like this one because it's really easy to install. It's got nice brackets for our six-pull as well as for our breakaway switch, and it's just really accessible. And again, the installation I think is super simple. You do have to remove the bumper to get it bolted up, but overall, it makes a template for you to install it. So it's pretty straightforward. Now, some other things I'll point out on this is you'll have these openings here that there are plastic caps included so that way you keep any dust, dirt, anything that the road might throw at it from building up in there. But whenever you're ready to tow your vehicle, you have these removable arms that you'll just put in, give it a quick twist, (metal clicks) and then that'll snap in place and then you're ready to go. To remove them is just as easy, you just pull this pin, give it a quick twist and it'll pop out. (metal clattering) (metal clicks) Another thing that I really like about this is everything's spaced out pretty well, so you can keep all your components kind of separate. Sometimes they bundle 'em up pretty close and it keeps everything a little bit busy-looking. Safety chains are super accessible and nice and far out, which is great. And also, you're able to put your belly pan back on. We have a metal one, we we inchesre able to cut tha
