Role of Lipids in Central Nervous System Regeneration | with Mikael Simons | The Lipidomics Webinar

Failure of regeneration capacity limits the restoration of nervous system functionality in demyelinating diseases. --- OUTLINE Failure of regeneration capacity limits the restoration of nervous system functionality in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Yet, the responsible mechanisms are only partially understood. I will present data supporting a key role for lipid metabolisms (that is, lipid droplet biogenesis and cholesterol efflux) in phagocytes for regeneration of myelin. Stimulation of the lipid sensing Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells or nuclear liver X receptor are possible therapeutic strategies of how to enhance the capacity to regenerate lesioned tissue. --- CHAPTERS 00:00 - Introduction to the role of myelin in neurobiology 04:03 - Demyelination and remyelination in multiple sclerosis 08:22 - Inflammation, remyelination, and lipid metabolism 10:53 - Cholesterol metabolism in microglia 13:53 - Impact of diet on cholesterol metabolism during remyelination 17:06 - TREM2 as a key lipid sensor in microglia 21:58 - Role of microglia to initiate remyelination 28:00 - Link between lipid metabolism and immune response --- MORE LinkedIn:   / lipotype   Twitter:   / lipotype_global   Instagram:   / lipotype_global   Facebook:   / lipotype   #lipidomics #webinar #neurobiology
