(HD) Flying on a C-47 Skytrain "Hairless Joe" (DC-3) & B-25 Engine Start-up - Yankee Air Museum

A flight to remember, an aviation dream come true. I will always treasure this. I've been very fortunate to have flown on several historic warbirds and vintage aircraft and each flight has been very special to me. As much as I love and appreciate modern airliners, it is important to remember where the aviation industry has come from and to try to experience first-hand some of the iconic milestone airplanes if possible when opportunities become available. This was actually my third attempt to fly on this airplane and well worth the wait. Douglas C-47D Skytrain (DC-3), Willow Run KYIP/YIP About the Flight ---------------------------------------------------------- Aircraft: Douglas C-47D Skytrain 44-76716 Named: “Hairless Joe” History: The plane has been flying in USAF colors as "Yankee Doodle Dandy" for many years but got a recent facelift. The new paint job was generously donated by Kalitta Air. The plane was ferried to Oscoda, Michigan for Kalitta Maintenance on June 8, stripped of its old USAF paint, thoroughly inspected, primed and re-painted by the end of June 2018. FUN FACT: Aircraft Colors: 1st Air Commando Group, CBI Theater. Represents Hairless Joe, an aircraft flown by the legendary Lt.Col. Dick Cole in the 319th Troop Carrier Squadron within the 1st Air Commando.
