Ever heard of the Rockefeller family? Yeah, the American industrial, political, and banking family that owns one of the world's largest fortunes. One of its most significant establishments, Standard Oil Co., was, at the start of the 20th century, regarded by many and statistically proven to be one of the biggest and most powerful corporations in the world, with its chairman, John D. Rockefeller, becoming the first ever billionaire. However, all that treasured gold soon turned to dust when an exposé by the muckraker Ida Tarbell detailing the company’s strong-arm practices against rivals, railroad companies, and others eventually turned public opinion against it. Eventually, the company fell to its knees in 1911 when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Standard Oil Trust be dissolved under the Sherman Antitrust Act and split into 34 companies, sealing the company's fate.
