The best players in MLB will naturally have the highest WAR in the league. But, WAR is all-encompassing as it takes into account every aspect of an MLB position player's skillset: Hitting, Fielding, and Running primarily. Because of this, you sometimes see "league-average" hitters having one of the best seasons in the league, placing themselves among those that are considered "elite." How does this happen though? Is it really possible to hit "league-average" every year and still rack up enough WAR to be considered one of the best players in the league?
