SIKO GmbH is a global manufacturer of measurement and drive technology. When planning, implementing and setting up an additional site in Bad Krozingen, the company put its trust in two experienced partners – item and Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft Industrie- und Wirtschaftsberatung mbH. Optimising work bench design in assembly was a particular priority. The item Work Bench System, which can be flexibly expanded and customised, offers staff many ergonomic benefits. What’s more, the work benches are arranged in a U shape, which shortens the assembly lines. The decoupling of logistics and assembly also boosts productivity. Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft made use of the MTM (“Methods-Time Measurement”) method and the ergonomic assessment tool EAWS (“Ergonomic Assessment Work Sheet”) for the prospective factory planning. The MTM method is used to describe, analyse, assess and plan all manual activities. The EAWS tool offers an ideal way of assessing physical strain on individuals at a work bench. Using both the MTM method and the EAWS tool, Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft developed key proposals for work bench design in assembly at SIKO. Designing handling areas was another priority. A handling area template designed to the latest standard was used for this purpose. All necessary components can be placed inside this area without any problems.
