King Of Fighters '97 [PS1] - O.Chris, O.Shermie & O.Yashiro

This is a play-through using Orochi Chris, Orochi Shermie and Orochi Yashiro in the PS1 version of King Of Fighters '97. Read on below for more information... Orochi Chris, Orochi Shermie and Orochi Yashiro. They are the penultimate boss team you face before you take on the final boss, Orochi. They are unlockable playable characters. For this video I have alternated between them for each match. ===== Additional Information ===== ---- As a team, they have the same ending as the regular New Faces Team, with the only difference being some different colour palettes in the ending imagines. ---- When facing them as the CPU boss team, their order will always be Chris, Shermie and then Yashiro. ---- In the game's data, they are alternative versions of their regular counterparts, which means that they use the same slot value as regular New Faces team. ---- Obviously, they have different moves to their regular counterparts. ---- When you complete Team Play mode with them and the Congratulations All Clear screen appears after the credits, their portraits are actually of REGULAR Shermie, Yashiro and Chris, except that they use their Orochi version colour palettes instead! You can see this near the very end of the video. ===== About the Orochi clan ===== These three are of course the remaining members of the Four Heavenly Kings of Orochi and are responsible for awakening and releasing the deity. Even though that makes them an integral part of the storyline, all three are rarely mentioned in the post-97 canon KOF games. Gameplay and storyline wise, they are basically the counter-equivalent to Kyo, Benimaru and Goro. O.Chris uses flames like Kyo; O.Shermie uses lightening like Benimaru; and O.Yashiro uses strength (Earth) like Goro. All are decent characters, especially O.Yashiro, but I enjoy using O.Shermie the most out of the three. As each of them are a member of the Four Heavenly Kings, you'd think that each would be on the same level as Goenitz... but it's clear that they're not. In the game at least, you fight all three as a boss team and they're not too difficult to defeat, but they are slightly harder than the other regular teams. It's understandable why SNK didn't make each of them a separate boss, because Orochi is the star of the show after all. ===== About PS1 KOF'97 ===== A fair port of the arcade game. As the KOF series evolved, there are quite a lot of animation frame cuts that are quite noticeable for most of the characters... i.e. when Kyo walks backwards, he uses the forward-walking animation for it. This is due to lack of VRAM in the PS1 hardware (remember how Capcom did this in the SNES/Genesis versions of the Street Fighter 2 games). Nevertheless, it's very playable much like the arcade version. One of the biggest criticisms I've always had about KOF'97 is the fact that during fights it plays a generic background noise when you're playing/fighting against most characters, as only a few characters had proper music themes. I think they should have had a continuous music theme for each team. Loading times are a pain and cannot be avoided on the PS1 hardware obviously.
