Harley Benton Double Down DEMO & REVIEW | Polyphonic Octave + Analog Optical Compressor pedal 2 in 1

Guitar & 5 string bass, clean & high gain! The objective truth about the new HB double pedals, raw and unfettered. This is LITERALLY a Mooer Pure Octave and Yellow Compressor in a single box, with a switch to choose the order. It's not a copy. It is literally those two pedals together, with everything completely unchanged down to the layout and name of the controls. So if you wanted to spend 134EUR on those EXACT two pedals, you can save a bit by buying the Double Down for 88EUR. If you need both an analog optical compressor and a polyphonic octaver, you may be interested in this. Oddly enough, it's marketed as a bass pedal, although it will work objectively better on guitar: do not expect impossible two octave down tones on your low B 5 string bass, it's against the laws of physics. And now for the most succinct and objective review on the HB DD: Pros: - good tones can be had - simple to use - 11 octave combinations provide all the variety - +2,+1,-1,-2 octaves available - independent octave down, up, and dry signal levels give good flexibility - dry signal doesn't have latency, likely stays analog - versatile - 2-in-1 layout make it easier to switch order - relatively inexpensive (but only if you need both effects) - can be versatile with different instruments and amp gain levels - good boost abilities - knobs and switches feel fine Cons: - cheap build, down to the SMT construction (this not a smartphone, a computer, a modeller or a complex pedal like CBA stuff, so the only reason for SMT is cutting cost) - the pedal is almost empty inside, but does not operate on batteries - the octave down signal is very weak even with guitar through a bass cab - the octave signal has very noticeable latency Neutral: - octave signal can be boosted by the compressor in the B-A mode for more usable levels - octave signal latency can be masked by blending in the dry signal (which does not have latency) - best and safest when used with bass cabinets even with a guitar into a tube head setup - true bypass (we prefer it, others might not) - it will allow you to imitate bass on a guitar but with annoying latency and FAR LESS clarity The Verdict: The tones are good, subjective as that may be. The price is cheap as long as you need both. The best alternatives to this are either the identical yet more affordable Mooer pedals (if you don't need both in one), or a Valeton GP100 for FAR MORE flexibility and just a bit more money (125 vs 88). If you really need JUST a compressor and polyoctave with analog dry through, and REALLY need BOTH, get this HB DD. Otherwise, Mooer & Valeton will be a far better deal. LaGrange and Titanium series cables are just what the pandas ordered for utmost signal integrity and noise free operation, every single day! They also have THE lowest capacitance we have ever seen for a guitar cable (65pf/m and 75pf/m respectively). It's simply the easiest choice to make when shopping cables: impeccable quality for reasonable prices, made in Germany, and they have short cables (1.5m and even shorter) too, with angled or straight jacks as you need. https://www.klotz-ais.com/   / klotzcables     / klotzais   The RIG: (GUITAR part) Fender American Original 50's Stratocaster (with stainless steel frets) - Pure Vintage '59 single coil bridge pickup (BASS part) Ibanez EHB 1505 5 string BASS (passive mode, all stock) - Nordstrand™ Custom Big Split Humbucker bridge pickup Harley Benton Double Down (BOTH parts) Orange OR15 - set as in the video (BOTH parts) HESU B110 Bass Standard Cabinet - 1x 10" Hesu Phoenix Ceramic - tweeter turned off - 8 ohm (matched impedance) (BOTH parts) Shure SM57 (left) and Sennheiser E906 (right) - slightly off axis, on the grill (BOTH parts) Presonus Studio 68c (BOTH parts) Audacity - no post processing Music by Pair of Pandas, all rights reserved.
