Newport Beach experienced well overhead sets courtesy of pulsing swell and strong offshore winds from the northeast. Hurricane swells are rare but when they do hit California they are a spectacle to be held. Spots like the Wedge and Newport Beach jetties seemed to have the best waves during this rare swell. Our thoughts are with the community in Maui as the devastation caused by the West Maui Wildfires has destroyed Lahaina and beyond. In addition, Kihei and various areas of Upcountry Maui, such as Kula and Olinda, have faced and are still facing destruction from distinct wildfire outbreaks.
