A lesson for the ages - Intergenerational Mentoring | Merjem Colan | TEDxMonashUniversity

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The one thing in common about the most acclaimed humanitarians in history? They all led by example. Preaching is easy, but practising it? That requires hard work and dedication to a cause. Following in their footsteps is Merjem Colan, a final-year student of Commerce (Economics) at Monash Business School. In her talk, Merjem elucidates the importance of mentors and inspiring leaders in the community and workplace. An endeavour close to Merjem’s heart is working with Muslim youth, which she has been dedicatedly fulfilling by spending countless days at organisations including Islamic Council of Victoria Youth, ICMG Sareera Youth, and the Hume Interfaith Network. Another strong testimony to her passion is her work with the Monash Student Association and Monash University Islamic Society. With undying passion and fervour, she hopes to delve deeper into the academic side of Economics as well as serve the Australian community at large. Another strong testimony to her passion is her work with the MSA & MUIS. Her long-term goal was to establish a mentorship project for young women who aspire to become leaders in their community and professional workplace. Being a strong believer of if not now when, she took up the role of an Associate Program Manager at Victoria University, Melbourne Australia, allowing her to empower these young women by establishing a mentorship that encourages them to step into underrepresented areas of the corporate world. With undying passion and fervour, Merjem hopes to delve deeper into the academic side of Economics as well as serve the Australian community at large.
