Today, I chased squid at one of the bays in the lower harbour. It was my first time chasing squid at that spot and I started off by walking the contours of the bay and visually inspecting the shoreline for kelp and weed which is the habitat of squid. It didn't take long, first cast in fact, before I confirmed the presence of a population of calamari. I didn't end up landing that specimen but it was a boost to the morale to see evidence of what I was after. Shortly afterward, I hit a hot bite where I caught about six squid in as many casts with a small interested crowd watching. It was great talking to the bystanders but I couldn't but help but keep thinking that I needed to and should have been interacting with the viewers of this video. However, I enjoyed their company. To round off a magic session, I caught a big specimen right at the end as the rain was bucketing down.
