Most doctors prescribe low static doses of estradiol and progesterone because that is the easiest way to treat hot flashes without period bleeding. And this approach is much, much better than nothing. But! Low-dose static HRT does not give you enough hormones to optimize healthy longevity. Instead, I prefer to prescribe estradiol and progesterone in a cyclic manner at levels similar to those found in reproductive-aged women.
