This school-friendly video was created to teach young children about the work of Dale Chihuly and the art of glass blowing. Instructions included on how to make coffee filter flowers at the end of the video. Scroll down for supply recipes. Supplies needed for this project: round coffee filter, washable markers, spray starch (store bought OR homemade), plastic cup, rubber band. Homemade Spray Starch Recipe - Mix together 2 ½ cups of tap water and 1 ½ tbsp cornstarch in a saucepan (make sure there are no lumps). - Bring the mixture to a BOIL for 1 minute, then cool to room temperature. - Fill a spray bottle. Homemade Salt Dough Recipe - In a large mixing bowl, stir together 2 cups all-purpose flour and 1 cup salt. - Gradually add 1 cup water while stirring and mixing to form a dough with a Play-Doh like consistency. - Form the dough into a ball and knead for approximately 5 minutes, adding a bit more flour if the dough is too sticky or a bit more water if it’s too dry. Cinnamon Apple Sauce Air Fresheners - Mix 2 cups of applesauce and 2 cups of cinnamon - The dough should be fairly stiff, or it’ll be too sticky to roll out. So if it seems too wet, just mix in a bit more cinnamon. - Roll the dough out, just like you would if you were making real cookies. - Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes - Use a toothpick to make a hole at the top of the ornaments. Make the hole bigger than you think it should be, since the ornaments will shrink some as they dry. - Bake them at 200 ° F for 2.5 hours or leave them out on a baking sheet to dry at room temperature. - String a ribbon or string through the hole, and hang! Painting with Berries - crush up different berries - strain the juice out if you would like - use a paint brush to paint on paper and experiment!
