The Romance of Model Railroading: O Gauge Layouts VHS (1994) RARE Out of Print

This video upload is dedicated to the late model railroaders John Wendt Jr and Dave Simon. This is a very rare and out of print VHS tape by video producer Don Varda of Varda Communications Corporation. In this video, Varda visited three model railroaders, their layouts and collections. The first layout was owned by the late John Wendt Jr of Crown Point, Indiana, which is a wall-to-wall 2-level O gauge layout built by Model Railroad Custom Benchwork in Hood, Virginia. The 2nd collector is former PGA tour player Ed Dougherty, who has an outstanding Lionel Postwar collection that contains many Lionel advertisements, dealer displays and layouts, as well as many rare items from Lionel. The third layout was built by the late Dave Simon of Munster, Indiana. Simon's wall-to-wall O gauge layout measured 12 1/2 X 17 feet and had various toy train accessories incorporated in a high-rail scale-like setting. At the end of the video is a preview of Varda's "Postwar Lionel Collectors Series: The Great Years 1954", which is also available to watch on this channel. Don Varda is best known for working with acclaimed toy train collector and video producer Tom McComas at TM Books & Video during the early to mid 1990's. Varda and McComas together produced many shows for TM such as the original Toy Train Revue video magazine, The Magic of Lionel Trains, the first entries of the very popular I Love Toy Trains video series, and many more. In 1994, Don Varda left TM to pursue his own video production company called Varda Communications Corporation based out of LaPorte, Indiana. He created a few videos about toy trains such as "Postwar Lionel Collectors Series", "Stop, Look and Listen How To Identify Postwar Lionel", and the "MTH RailKing" 1995 video catalog. Varda stopped making videos by the late 90's and is now a coach in LaPorte, Indiana. This video was uploaded for preservation and entertainment purposes as this video is very rare and has been out of print.
