I Went to Malaquite Beach in Texas & It Was Great

#commentswithcorey #thingstodointexas #travel This week we are visiting Malaquite Beach on Padre Island National Seashore. This beach is wonderfully maintained by the State Park system. When you arrive there is a huge parking lot and two directions to choose from to head down to the beach. You can take the path through the dunes which is a brick walkway about half the way then you are walking through a lot of loose sand dune which can be hard on the muscles but the sight of the ocean when you reach the top of the dune is breath taking. On the other side there is a visitor's center which has a large deck with lots of picnic tables, rocking chairs overlooking the beach, bathrooms with showers (which were under construction when we went), a gift shop/museum, and areas to bird watch and look out over the beaches. Down on the beach itself you can find a few picnic tables but they get claimed fast. The water is usually pretty clear up to about knee to waist high and the beach is clean. You still need to be mindful of safety though and be aware of jelly fish and man-o-war. Occasionally you can find out about times when sea turtle eggs will be hatching and they will have a special gathering to watch them hatch and make their way to the ocean. You can stop by the little museum and learn about the conservation efforts and the history behind the national seashore. Its one of our favorite places to visit. There are also other areas on the national seashore where you can drive on the beach and camp as well as a camping area with RV hook ups.
