Creating International Karate & IK+ | Archer Maclean | The Gaming Chronicles

Archer Maclean created many legendary video games over the last 30 years including Dropzone, Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker and Mercury. In this brand new clip featuring lots of never before released material Archer talks about his inspiration to create the games 'International Karate' & 'IK+' (Chop N' Drop in the US) in the mid 1980's for the Commodore 64, Atari 800, Amiga and Atari ST. This sequence was pulled from our archives and is part of a new thread we are creating called The Gaming Chronicles which will offer more in-depth insight into video games and the people behind them. 00:00 Intro 00:21 I was riding high thanks to DROPZONE 00:58 Was shown an awful ZX Spectrum Karate game 01:18 Can you copy Karate Champ? 01:49 Big fan of 'Way of the Exploding Fist! 02:13 Most of my 8-Bit work was done on an Atari 800! 03:35 What do I do next? 03:52 Activision come calling! 04:14 Trying to get 3rd man running was tough! 04:50 Easier to create on the 68000 machines! 05:11 Old school programmer graphics! 06:13 Backflip from the film 'Grease' 07:01 Jackie Chan kicks! 07:18 Chop N' Drop in the US! 07:48 Outro
