We're stoked to bring you the exciting Pyzel Astro Pop surfboard, a turbo charged refurb of the original Astro retro fish. This is a great little board for most conditions, injecting some 'spark' into weaker and mushy summer waves and at the same time being super-fun in good quality surf. The Astro Pop has a more pulled in nose than the original Astro and the tail has been narrowed with the introduction of a small wing which pulls in the last 4 inches creating a curvy outline for looser feeling without compromising that all important speed. The Astro Pop has a serious double concave which flows into a significant vee at the tail so the board levitates and gets up on a plane in the weakest waves and rolls easily from rail to rail for faster directional changes. This little board paddles beautifully which is down to the flatter entry rocker and the extra foam kept in the nose with a very subtle beak nose. The Astro pop comes with five fin boxes giving you the option to ride it as the recommended quad for speed and 'squirt' or as a thruster in better waves. Sizing your Astro Pop is pretty easy...you can go as short as you like as long as you keep the volume a couple of litres up on your everyday driver. If you're considering the Astro Pop as your first proper shortboard or maybe you want a more forgiving ride, then you'll need to go a little longer to get the required volume. Jon Pyzel was raised in California, Santa Barbara to be exact and first started surfing while in junior high. Jon soon became hooked on surfing and was riding boards shaped by Carpinteria and Rincon Designs legend Matt Moore. Matt put Jon on his team and always took time to explain the finer points of surfboard shaping and surfboard design with Jon often watching-on as Matt shaped his boards. Fast forward to 1992 and Jon made a permanent move to Oahu’s North Shore where he picked up work repairing boards at Country Surfboards. Jon then started working with master shaper and North Shore legend Jeff Bushman who used Jon as his back-shaper which proved to be the start of a glossy career in surfboard design and shaping.
