The island of Murano is renowned for its long tradition of glass-making. Burano is known as the island of colors, made up of colorful houses, fishing boats and lanes. Since before the Venetian Republic, Burano was home to fishermen and legend says that the houses were painted in bright hues so they could see their way home when fog blanketed the lagoon. Burano lace is as famous internationally as Murano glass.
