After finishing his B.A. from Dyal Singh College, Lahore, the avant-garde Pakistani poet Munir Niazi started writing Urdu songs for movies being produced in the film studios of Lahore in the 1950's. The movie is based on an Urdu novel Hazaar Daastaan written by Riaz Shahid and depicts a story set in the Old City neighborhood of Lahore. The movie was directed by Riaz Shahid with songs written by Munir Niazi and set to immortal melodies by the very talented music composer Hasan Latif.
