Vaporfly 4% v1 - Dead at 150 Miles?!?

People frequently ask me how many miles they can expect from their vaporfly. Sometimes, they want to know so they can make a purchasing decision. Frequently, they want validation or permission to dislike something that they already want to dislike. Either way, I've never really known as I haven't had a chance to take a pair of vaporfly to end of life. But now I have. After about 150 miles, I think it's time to retire my v1 Vaporfly 4%. The cuplrit wasn't foam separation and it wasn't foam degradation, but it was the weird bubble i got in the outsole (and perhaps that is a result of a combination of foam separation and degradation). The bubble, I think, was creating a chirping sound as I ran, and it just seemed like a symptom of impending shoe failure. So, given that I also have two other pair of vaporfly in my closet, I think it's time to let these go. We've had a good run together. And I will remember them fondly. A lot of you may think that 150 miles isn't a lot of mileage to get out of a shoe that costs as much as these do. And I think that's fair. But if we could make the analogy to car racing, if you're trying to perform well at the race track, you might want to know how much mpg you're getting, but you don't really think about how many miles per dollar you're getting. Or to make a running argument, I think we need to ask whether it's really fair at all to use a training shoe metric for a shoe intended for racing. Thanks for watching!
