Tegan and Sara: Goodbye Goodbye

Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara performed at the CHUM FM Fanfest event on Friday May 9th, during Canadian Music Week 2014. Calgary natives, musicians at age 8, songwriters at 15, these twin pop thrushes began recording while still in school, winning Calgary’s Garage Warz competition in 1998. From there to touring with Neil Young and the Pretenders, to recording with Hawksley Workman, to their commercial breakthrough with 2004’s “So Jealous”, Tegan and Sara’s success has transcended mere indie status, they have truly become pop stars on their own terms. The sisters enchanted at Fanfest with their shimmering, glimmering pop song, Goodbye Goodbye, off their most recent album, “Heartthrob”. That record’s modern pop-friendly production was no barrier to their live show: moments of raw joy mixed with pounding drums and retro keyboards! With urgent call-and-response vocals occasionally reminiscent of Canadian indie queen Jane Siberry, Tegan and Sara charmed and engaged the crowd, making obvious and specific connections with their fans from the stage. Tegan and Sara have released 7 studio albums and 13 singles. They’ve been nominated for Grammys, won JUNOs, and been acclaimed both nationally and internationally. Their songs have been covered by the White Stripes and been featured on TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and films like “Dallas Buyer’s Club” and “Monster-In-Law.” Tegan and Sara have toured and performed with such acts as the Killers, Bryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Sarah McLachlan and most recently Lady Gaga. They’ve collaborated with artists like Against Me! and Margaret Cho. They’ll be touring with Katy Perry this September and October.
