Only Teak Museum In The World |தேக்கு அருங்காட்சியம் |

The Nilambur Teak museum is the world's first teak museum and is operated by the kerala forest research institute. The exhibits include comprehensive information on aspects of the use of teak in their exhibits and articles on the subject. The museum provides extensive information of value historically, artistically and scientifically. The museum was established in 1995 on the campus of the centre of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) because of the historical significance of teak to the area. The world's first teak plantation was planted in Nilambur in the 1840s by the British. The museum is easily accessible via road and has plenty of parking. Albeit small, the museum provides a good overview of teaks and their plantation history in Kerala. The highlights of the exhibit are the cross-sections of teak trees from various parts of Kerala. The botanical gardens, including the taxonomic, medicinal, and herbal sections, should be a treasure trove for botanists and plant-lovers. The orchidarium, fern house, and cactus collection are also beautiful. There's also a children's park and ice-cream parlour to keep kids occupied if they get bored. All in all, this is a great place to spend at least half a day in green company.
