#storiesthatmatter #udupi #documentary Suralu Palace is over 600 years old. It was constructed in the year 1511 AD during the Tholahas dynasty. Suralu palace has a blend of Vastu derived from Hindu – Jain cultural hierarchy. The palace, is situated in the midst of a one-acre lush green land as a mute spectator of the bygone era, is jsut 28 km away from the Udupi city. Attempts are being made by Nirmiti Kendra to conserve the surviving mud palace, although the funds released are very insufficient to do good and proper work. The palace is divided into 7 separate courtyards comprising Hebbagilu Chavadi, Rajangana, Pattada Chavadi, Perduru Magani Chavadi, Basadi, Goddess Padmavathi Temple and also other spaces such as the bathrooms and toilets, cattle shed, special kitchen and storehouse of paddy and other agricultural crops. Here is a documentary on the rich history of the Sooralu Palace and the importance to preserve this rich cultural heritage of Udupi.
