Terra Cresta (NES) - Full Run 2-ALL Clear (First Attempt!)

Full run through 2 loops of Terra Cresta (テラクレスタ) for the NES/Famicom. This was my first (and only) try playing the game, and it was played using a real NES and the real cart. Stage Listing: 00:00 - Intro 01:00 - Loop 1 Start 02:43 - Boss 1 05:33 - Boss 2 08:18 - Boss 3 11:17 - Boss 4 ("final boss") 14:18 - Loop 2 Start 30:52 - Loop 3 Start Terra Cresta is a vertically scrolling shooter and another in the long list of arcade ports that made it's way to the NES in the 80s. Unfortunately this game is pretty bland and one of those endlessly looping games with no real ending or clear break to mark the looping point. You basically just keep going on and on and hope that it finally ends somewhere (hint: it doesn't). Even the "final boss" isn't actually the end of the loop as I discovered. The primary gimmick in this particular game is the ability to merge additional pieces/ships to your main ship for extra firepower (again, similar to Magmax). However, this time around you can also unleash special attacks depending on which pieces/ships you pick up. This was the main thing I liked about the game, as having your ship "break out" into several smaller ships all with their own firepower was actually pretty cool to see. After a certain point if you pick up enough pieces you can turn into some sort of fire bird (a phoenix?) where you are invincible for a certain amount of time. Unfortunately the fun pretty much ends there. Dying anywhere completely depowers you and also sends you back to a checkpoint, and coming back from nothing once again proves challenging. The main issue I have with this is that the enemies have pretty erratic patterns and move very quickly, with deaths mainly coming from them crashing into you rather than shooting you. I'm not really a fan of that. Thankfully clearing the first loop in the game is not too challenging as it only takes around 15 minutes or so, and you should get plenty of powerups and lives to do it. Further loops seem to have much more aggressive enemies or maybe It was just my patience wearing thin with the game but it seemed to get harder the longer I played. There is nothing overtly bad with Terra Cresta, it does have solid graphics and some catchy music, but at the same time it's all so repetitive and nothing really stands out with the levels. It all just kinds of blends together and becomes forgettable.
