Want to taste local Swiss food while on vacation in Switzerland? Come along on our DIY Swiss Food Tour! Begin this DIY Swiss Food Tour with a full appetite in Interlaken, Switzerland STOP 1: Bread from Bäckerei-Konditorei Steininger Nothing is better than bread that's crusty on the outside and soft on the inside! This place also happens to be one of our favorite Swiss bakeries in Interlaken. STOP 2: Cheese from a Farm Fridge You must taste Swiss cheese while in Switzerland! What better place to buy it than on a dairy farm! STOP 3: Jam from another Farm Fridge This farm has cows, chickens, and ducks — but there must be a garden patch somewhere because their farm stand sells jam too! STOP 4: Rugenbräu Brewery (with whiskey and gin too!) Beer straight from the Bernese Oberland! You can taste Rugenbräu Swiss beer in most local restaurants, but the brewery gives you a behind the scenes tour of its production. Plus you can taste their Swiss whiskey and gin too! BONUS STOP: Wander the Unspunnen Castle ruins Although it's just crumbling stones, there is an interesting history to Unspunnen Castle, which you can read on the signs posted here (also written in English). Take the time to hike to the top and see the mysterious dungeon/well/giant hole! PICNIC: Have a picnic with an amazing view of the Jungfrau! Don't know what to do in Interlaken, Switzerland? Come here for a picnic! In our opinion, this is the best view of the Jungfrau and Jungfraujoch! TRAIN/BUS: Ride the train to Lauterbrunnen Valley, and then catch bus 141 to Stechelberg, Sandbach Swiss trains are impressive. And the Swiss transportation system is clean, timely, and convenient. You'll take a train and bus to Lauterbrunnen Valley from Wilderswil to continue our DIY Swiss Food Tour. STOP 5: Milk from a Farm Vending Machine (2024 UPDATE: This has now been moved to Wilderswil!) You guys, fresh Swiss milk from a Swiss cow, chilled, and served in a vending machine. What's better than that?! STOP 6: Sirop from another Farm Vending Machine (mixed with Swiss water to make juice!) Want a good laugh? Don't skip this part! We made a huge mistake here! But if you're wondering where to eat in Lauterbrunnen Valley, these vending machines are fun and are filled with different snacks! STOP 7: Rahmtäfeli from a Farm-Side Stand This sweet treat is made from Swiss milk and lots of sugar. But if you want to taste local Swiss food, you need to try these! NOT INCLUDED: We discovered Wilderswil wine. So sweet, fruity and refreshing! Swiss chocolate! That's right, there was NO Swiss chocolate in these vending machines. Be right back...heading to the grocery store to snag some ;) Swiss cheese fondue! I guess it's obviously why this wasn't in a vending machine.
