How to Diagnose a Ford Ranger Rough Idle

In this video I discuss how you can diagnose your Ford Ranger's idling and rpm issue. With idling issues the most common problem is an air-related issue. There are several easy things to quickly check to identify the source. First, if you can hear a "sucking air" sound than you likely have a vacuum leak somewhere. On Ford Rangers the most common source of vacuum leaks is the "vacuum tree" on the side of the intake manifold. This tree has several rubber hoses attached and they frequently crack or fall off of the tree, creating a vacuum leak. Another common source is the rubber elbow that is located underneath the throttle body. Other sources of idling issues include the throttle body butterfly valve, idle control valve, mass airflow sensor, and the air filter.
