The recyclability of batteries | Sulalit Bandyopadhyay | TEDxTrondheim

What criterias will you consider when you purchase an electric vehicle? Driving range? Charging speed? How about ... battery recycling? As the power source for electric vehicles and many other devices, lithium-ion batteries are being produced and used at an ever-increasing pace. But what happens when these batteries reach the end of their life? Is it possible to mitigate their economic and environmental impacts by reducing the amount of waste? These questions are major challenges for modern society. Sulalit Bandyopadhyay, a researcher at NTNU who is also associated with the Delft University of Technology, is working on several national and international projects, trying to solve one of the challenges of modern society – how to develop efficient strategies for recycling of metals from end of life car batteries. Sulalit is a part of leading projects exploring the possibility of closed loop recycling for lithium-ion batteries, where the metals from old car batteries can be used to make new batteries. In this talk, Dr. Bandyopadhyay raises audiences’ awareness on lithium-ion battery recycling. He argues that the society and market will respond to the need for recycling if we as consumers ask the right questions. Link to the speaker’s biography: https://www.ntnu.edu/employees/sulali...
