When I was studying to become a Pilates instructor many years ago, I remember my teachers telling me that the arms are an extension of the back. The shoulder girdle area is considered to be what’s called the Secondary Powerhouse. This refers to the bones and muscles of this area of the body. Whenever we do exercises with the arms, it’s important to make sure the Secondary Powerhouse is engaged, stable and strong. The qigong portion will benefit the entire body, but have a focus on the upper back and arms.
