Here is the material that was present in the premiere roadshow release of Hawaii (1966) that was later altered or deleted from the general release version. The negative for this trimmed material was then lost or destroyed. This material now only exists as standard definition video transferred in 1990 from a faded 70mm roadshow print that has further decayed. Higher quality footage from the general release surrounds the deleted material. The audio-only Overture, Entr’acte, and Exit Music have been moved to the end of this video, but the rest of the material appears in chronological order. Hawaii is a 1966 American epic drama film directed by George Roy Hill and based on the 1959 novel of the same name by James A. Michener. It tells the story of an 1820s Yale University divinity student (Max von Sydow) who, accompanied by his new bride (Julie Andrews), becomes a Calvinist missionary in the Hawaiian Islands. It was filmed at Old Sturbridge Village, in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and on the islands of Kauai and Oahu in Hawaii.
