Guenterstal In a narrow valley at the foot of the Schauinsland lies Freiburg's southernmost district Günterstal - a former village - which today is only geographically separated from Freiburg by a green area, the Wonnhaldenwiesen. With its high altitudes and stately villas in the Oberdorf, Günterstal is a popular place to live. You can take the tram through the old gatehouse of the former monastery and take the Schauinslandbahn for a nice trip up the Black Forest mountain. In the adjoining city forest is probably Germany's tallest tree, a 63 m high Douglas fir, which was baptized with the name "Waldtraut vom Mühlenwald". Mit seinen Höhenlagen und den stattlichen Villen des Oberdorfs ist Günterstal ein beliebter Wohnort. Mit der Straßenbahn fährt man durch das alte Torhaus des ehemaligen Klosters und mit der Schauinslandbahn lässt sich ein schöner Ausflug auf den Schwarzwaldberg unternehmen. Im angrenzenden Stadtwald steht vermutlich Deutschlands höchster Baum, eine 63 m hohe Douglasie, die auf den Namen "Waldtraut vom Mühlenwald" getauft wurde. Gastronomisch erwähnenswert ist das Waldrestaurant St. Valentin aus dem 16. Jahrhundert.
