In this video, I restore an old hewing hatchet, creating my ideal right handed carving hatchet. I finally got around to restoring this old hewing hatchet that my friend, Brad, gave me as a gift recently. Brad found this hatchet on his property, and it's likely very old - maybe even as old as the property itself. The hatchet surprisingly had little rust, aside from in the eye, where an old rotten handle fit. I removed the handle, cleaned the head, re-hafted it with a new hickory handle, and added some much needed features and fine tuning, creating the perfect right handed carving hatchet to fit my needs.
