I learned this form from Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming when he had his retreat center in Northern California and this was a fantastic introduction to Medical Qigong. I have since modified the form slightly to highlight aspects that I teach when working with patients, and also when teaching taiji and qigong. However, much of it is unchanged from what I learned. Specifically, I have kept the focus on the expansion and compression driven by the spinal wave. You can check out the spinal wave here:    • Spinal Wave - A Core & Back Qigong Ex...   One aspect I really appreciate about this form is that it is relatively simple and allows the practitioner to focus on the principles of expansion, compression, rotation and side bending. In each move, I listed some key points. I did not mention anything about breathing which is something that is frequently addressed. My view is that the breathing is driven by core engagement. Focus on breathing without core involvement can stiffen the body and cause some detrimental issues (neck tightness, back pain, and other problems. If you focus on moving from the center, the breathing can be driven by this. If you want to work with the breathing, you can exhale when you exert force out. The exhale can help muscle engagement (especially abdominal muscle engagement). And you can inhale when loading and preparing to exert force outward, almost as if yo are loading a spring. This is just a guideline and I think it is best to not force the breath into some ideal that doesn't feel natural to you. It might be easier to work with the breath once you have the general feeling of expansion and compression and there are various strategies for breath that can then be employed.
