Unlike most of the videos on micro assist hooks you find on youtube, this is made with a solid ring, not a loop. The loop is connected to the split ring, which is practically the weakest link in the jig, so I try not to put pressure on the split ring by not making it a load bearing point. Making micro assist hooks this way for micro and light jigging, even for heavy jigging ensures the load is not on the split ring - since there is always a chance for the split ring to open. This is the biggest reason why I put a solid ring on all my assist hooks for micro jigging, it does not only look clean, but it ensures that the pressure of the fight is not on the fragile split ring, it is a direct connection to the rod.
