Your home is not a storage unit (How to create a peaceful home)

🌐 please turn on subtitles/subtítulos/字幕/자막/sous-titres/副标题/Untertitel/ซับไตเติ้ล/تَرْجَمة under 'cc' for all languages with auto-translate 🌐 Today I share what I learned from Fumio Sasaki, Virginia Woolf, and William Morris. And I ramble about some of my own thoughts on decluttering. I talk about these topics: 1. Our home is not a storage unit 2. Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful (William Morris) 3. Our family “rules” for a peaceful home 4. Declutter space for creativity 5. Discard something right now (Fumio Sasaki) I also like the idea of decluttering like a museum curator. Imagine a museum curator who, instead of carefully selecting and curating exhibits, simply collected everything that came their way. Their museum would be a chaotic jumble of things. A museum, just like a home, is not a storage unit for things. Later in the video I bring up Virginia Woolf, I didn't mention the full quote, it is as follows: "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction” (A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf). It refers to how financial independence and personal space are essential for creative expression. The phrase "room of one's own" is not just about a physical space; it represents the ability to create a private, safe space where you can freely think, write, and explore your creative potential. It symbolizes the autonomy and independence that are crucial for intellectual and artistic development. Decluttering can help us create a more personalized and meaningful home environment, which can further enhance our creativity. By removing unnecessary clutter and allowing ourselves to focus on the things that are truly important to us, we can create a space that inspires us to be creative and to pursue our passions. By decluttering our homes, we create more space for ourselves to think, write, and explore our creative ideas. We also create a more peaceful environment. In the video, I also mention the minimalist Fumio Sasaki. If you haven't read Sasaki's book yet, it's called "Goodbye, things". It has many very good practical tips for a more minimalist lifestyle. My video recommendation for today is "the Minimal Mom's" wonderful video about decluttering: "Radical mindset shifts to declutter your whole house this year", here's the link:    • Radical Mindset Shifts to Declutter y...   In her video, she sorts things in three categories: trash, donate and "time will tell". That's a much faster way to declutter. Have a great day!
