Discovering Warner Bros. Jungle Habitat in West Milford, NJ

Did you know: When Jungle Habitat opened in 1972, Neighboring Greenwood Lake Airport offered aerial tours in Cessna aircraft painted with tiger and leopard stripes. The Warner Bros. Jungle Habitat, in West Milford, New Jersey, was a theme park that opened in the summer of 1972, and stayed open only 4 years, permanently closing in October 1976. The theme park had over 1500 animals. Did you know that out of all the different animals walking about, the most famous incident involved a baby elephant biting a woman! The park featured a drive-through safari section, where wild animals approached cars as they slowly drove by. People observed peacocks, baboons, camels, elephants, llamas, giraffes, and Siberian tigers in this way. Often the animals would climb atop the cars, or walk in front of vehicles so signs were posted along the route to warn visitors to keep their windows closed. Did you know that Animals would escape, everything from Baboons to Peacocks were found wandering in town. In addition, a walking trail section included a small theme park which included a petting zoo, camel and elephant rides, snack bars, gift shop, a reptile house, a dolphin show, and "Bugs Bunny and Friends" live shows. Guests could have their photographs taken with Looney Tunes, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Speedy Gonzales, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. did you know: For years after it closed, there were rumors of animals still roaming the property!
