KASHMIR: INDIA'S MOST WANTED MAN SPEAKS FROM GUARDED HIDEAWAY

(18 Jun 1995) Urdu/Eng/Nat The man at the top of India's list of most wanted men has spoken from his heavily guarded hideaway. Radical Kashmiri militant Sajad Ahmad Kenu, who broke out of an Indian jail earlier this month, is holed-up near Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. Armed guards patrol the secret hideaway of one of the guerillas most wanted by Indian Security Forces. These men are members of Ikhwanul Muslimeen - the Muslim Brotherhood. Their leader is radical Kashmiri militant Sajad Ahmad Kenu. Kenu is on the run. He escaped from a high security prison at Rangret, near Srinagar, earlier this month. Body guards, commanders and party activists, armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles and hand grenades, swarmed in to the strong-house to hear Kenu speak. They were not disappointed by his plans. Kenu vowed to fight for the cause of the Muslim Brotherhood. SOUNDBITE: (Urdu) "I just had to escape in order to see the reality. With the help of my colleagues I finally managed to escape. Before escaping, I promised to take care of our rightful cause, and fight for our right." SUPER CAPTION: Sajad Ahmad Kenu, Militant Leader of Ikhwanul Muslimeen Kenu sees part of his mission as that of peacekeeper. He plans to unite the Brotherhood and expose Indian infiltrators who threaten to destablise the group. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The first task for me is to make the effort to stop the group clashes in the valley and to expose the elements which are infiltrated by the Indian government. And also to unite the Ikhwanul Muslimeen (Muslim Brotherhood)."
