Oasis - Live at Glastonbury (26th June 1994)

Oasis Location: Pilton, England, U.K Venue: The NME Stage Date: 26th June 1994 Source: Soundboard Recording Special Event: Glastonbury Festival ‘94 Oasis’ first visit to Glastonbury Festival, this is a very famous gig on the Definitely Maybe Tour. Oasis weren’t the only band from the britpop rock movement debuting at Glastonbury this year, as Blur, Pulp and Radiohead all made their first appearances at this year’s festival too. However even more importantly, Glastonbury 1994 was the first Glastonbury to be televised via Channel 4 (this was before the BBC got the rights to broadcast the festival after the 1995 festival.) While the coverage mainly focussed on the Pyramid Stage, the Other Stage, then known as the NME Stage which Oasis were playing on, was the other stage chosen to be televised. With Definitely Maybe still about two months from release, and the band just releasing their second single (Shakermaker) a few days before, it was very important to give a good performance to the 20,000 or so people who were there. Fortunately, this is a really good performance. Right from the get-go the band put on a great show and the audience immediately gets into it, and by Cigarettes and Alcohol several rows of attendees are jumping up and down. Liam sounds pretty flawless here, fully recovering from his rough vocal state from previous gigs and puts in a top performance. It’s a shame Up In The Sky isn’t played tonight (possibly due to time constraints for their allocated slot) as Liam possibly could’ve gone all out on it. The band too sound excellent, putting in awesome renditions of several songs such as Fade Away and I Am The Walrus. This is the final June concert of the Definitely Maybe Tour, the band would take a month’s break before regrouping to play their first American gig in late July. Big thanks to The Thieving Magpie for a great remaster of the audio!
