Follow IG kmkoptometrypro for more clinical cases! All too often I’ll have a new patient in my chair, diagnosed with glaucoma from another provider and on IOP lowering drops for years….and then I’ll take a look and they don’t have glaucoma! They have something else that can mimic glaucoma, so they actually don’t need to be on eyedrops! Whether it is optic atrophy from an NAION or an artery occlusion, or if there is disc drusen or a benign malformation like tilted disc syndrome that may present itself with a nasal step, it is very important to know the true etiology of the optic nerve damage. Knowing this can have a huge impact on the management of the patient’s ocular health going forward. In the short clip above, Dr Rachael Canania goes over a common misdiagnosis of glaucoma and what the real culprit was, in her patient’s case.
