This week is a very special video! It’s my one year on YouTube celebration! Yes, for one year, I have been able to write, produce, edit and upload videos to YouTube. I can hardly believe it. #lifewithavent #happyanniversary #oneyearonyoutube This channel started off with a single video. We were in the midst of COVID lock downs. My mom was bugging me that I should make videos and have my own YouTube channel. After being constantly pestered, I finally opened up my laptop and filmed my first video. • Life with a ventilator. When your tub... I was blown away by the success of the first video. I shot a second film and from there the Life with a Vent YouTube channel was born. / @lifewithavent Over the last year, the one thing I am most grateful for is the support and friendships I have gained. It is a blessing to hear other people’s stories and to receive encouragement through my own struggles. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate each comment, message and email I receive. I rarely leave the house and have few friends. Connecting virtually to so many people has helped fill a void which was present in my life. I am forever grateful for this. When I began this channel, I had just recovered from COVID. I thought my health would be stable, but instead, it has been a rocky roller coaster. When I became significantly sick this summer with blood clots in my legs and lungs, I never thought to document my struggles through these health challenges. My channel was about living life with a ventilator. It was not supposed to be channel showing my medical emergencies. I was in and out of the hospital during the summer and into the fall with blood clots. My emergency room visits and hospitalizations were not recorded. Then, in late fall, I developed pneumonia. I was scrambling that week because I needed to produce a video. I reluctantly filmed some of my time in the hospital. To my surprise, the video was well received. I then realized my life with my ventilator includes hospitalizations and emergency medical care. I decided it was permissible to film some of my health struggles. This spring, I had a feeding tube surgery, had post surgery pneumonia, had a PICC line placed and received IV antibiotics, had the feeding tube fail, had to be started on IV nutrition and had a bowel obstruction. As much as I did not want to share this dark side of my health, it is my reality. I have mitochondria disease, chronic pancreatitis and a bunch of other medical conditions which often make my life complicated. As much as I wish my life to be sunshine and lollipops, it often is not. But whatever situation I find myself in, I try to see the good in everything.
