Additives in Tequila, and Rum, and Whiskey?? What's to know?

The conversation surrounding additives in spirits has been growing more and more prevalent in recent months, especially in regards to Tequila. Join Director of Education, Brandon Cummins (‪@brandon.altamar‬ ) as he runs down a number of different additives that can (and are) used in spirits production. He covers the use of e150a Caramel Coloring, including a demonstration showcasing how much coloring is necessary to achieve certain normalization levels, as well as the use of Glycerine, Essences, and other Jarabes. Lastly, the post script helps better define WHY one might be concerned about additives, and hopefully gives a look into options that could help alleviate some of those concerns. Ultimately settling on transparency and standards in labeling. All to say - additives are commonly being used in many spirits categories, in Vodka, in Tequila, in Rum, in Cognac, in Whisk(e)y... and are not currently required to be labeled on the bottle. While this is one of many concerns facing the spirits industry (some arguably far more important on many scales) - this is certainly one that is deceptive to the consumer, and oftentimes can be damaging (through dominance in market share) to smaller, lesser known producers.
