MEET YOUR NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL Governor-General Sam Mostyn was officially sworn in today. Australia is a constitutional monarchy, which means the king is the head of state, but the king's in England, so he has a representative here in Australia - the Governor-General. Their job includes approving new laws, appointing new judges and they can even give the PM the flick if there's a really good reason. But that doesn't happen very often, in fact their role is mainly ceremonial. Like most Governor-Generals, Sam Mostyn has an impressive resume. She's a businesswoman, a lawyer and she was the first female AFL commissioner. Over the next five years, I'm sure her face will become more familiar. NEW VAPE LAWS Australia's strict new anti-vaping laws came into effect today. It means the only place you're allowed to buy vapes now is at a chemist, and until October, everyone will need a prescription. After that, vapes can be sold over the counter to adults, but they'll have to be in plain packaging and flavours will be limited to mint, menthol or tobacco. FRANCE HEADS TO THE POLLS French President Emanuel Macron did not have a good weekend. His party has taken a battering in the first round of elections for France's National Assembly. Macron called the surprise election three years early, after his party did badly in the European Parliamentary Elections. He was hoping people would turn against the right-wing National Rally party, which has some controverisal policies... but that hasn't happened. While Macron will remain president until 2027, if National Rally wins, he'll have to work with a Prime Minister with some very different political views. EUROS The British side were staring elimination in the face in their match against Slovakia last night, until the dying seconds of the match, when Jude Bellingham flipped fate, quite literally, with this spectacular overhead equaliser! It sent the match into overtime, and England's Harry Kane wasted no time, serving a 91st minute header to win the match, 2-1. AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX The tension continued at the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. Race leader Max Verstappen and his closest rival Lando Norris, were wheel to wheel from start to well, this moment, when they crashed out in the dying laps of the race! It wasn't all bad news though, as Aussie star Oscar Piastri stepped up to take second place for McLaren, just behind the Mercedes of George Russell. WORLD RUNNER But here's an Aussie who's taken first place! Sure, he was the only one in this race, but it was a whopper! Tim Franklin here ran all the way around the world, well, except for the ocean bits, which he had to fly over. He covered more than 26,000 kays in 576 days! Wrapping up in Brisbane yesterday. While he missed out on the world record time of 434 days, Tim raised more than $80,000 for charity which is heroic enough. TIANLONG-3 Say hi to Tianlong-3. NEW DINOSAUR SPECIES Finally, meet Lokiceratops, a new species of dinosaur named after the Norse god of mischief and chaos. Not because it was particularly chaotic, but because its curved horns look a bit like Loki's helmet.
